Kathleen Gillis, Psy. D.

Biographical Info

I am a licensed psychologist in private practice in SW Portland with over 20 years of experience in psychology. I specialize in custody and parenting time issues, divorce adjustment, co-parenting, divorce coaching, and parent/child attachment. I also work with teen girls on a variety of issues. I serve as a Child Custody Evaluator, Parent Coordinator, Collaborative Divorce Child Specialist, Psychotherapist and Parenting Time Mediator. I also conduct comprehensive psychological assessments of children, teens and adults, with particular emphasis on parental capacity, personality functioning, and the quality of attachment relationships. In addition, I conduct evaluations for parents seeking to adopt. I began my career in the mid-1980s at the University of Oregon (and later, at Massachusetts General Hospital) conducting research on language, memory and cognition. I also served as a special education teacher. I later earned my doctoral degree in clinical psychology focusing on child development, family dynamics, and neuropsychological functioning in adolescents. I am straight-forward, humorous and empathic in my approach, and strive to facilitate open, honest and respectful communication while helping individuals and families reach their goals. I believe I can best serve my clients by helping them 1) utilize their own experience and knowledge; 2) build on current strengths; and 3) tailor solutions to fit their unique circumstances.
